The Dooars in Bengali or Duars in Nepali are the floodplains and foothills around Bhutan of the eastern Himalayas in North-Eastern part of India. In Nepali and Bengali languages Duar means door and this region forms the gateway or the door to Bhutan from India. The Western part of Dooars is known as the Bengal Dooars and the Eastern part of Dooars is known as the Assam Dooars. The Dooars valley (also called Duars) stretches from the Teesta River on the west to the Sankosh River on the east, an area roughly covering 130 km by 40 km, this place forms the major part of the Jalpaiguri district. Dooars tourism offers a variety of options to the visitors like adventure sports, trekking and nature trails. The famous national park of Duars, Gorumara National Park was declared as the "Best National Park" in the year 2010.
